Community & Charity
We are always happy to hear from charities and community projects wanting to work with us, so if you run a charity and can see the fundraising benefits of some of the great names in British football, please do get in touch with us, and let’s chat about how we can help you.
Community
There has always been a strong community element to Masters Football and it continues to be one of the most popular activities for the players. Whether it’s coaching local children whilst on overseas tours or interaction and involvement in our UK events, we always look forward to new ways to integrate community activities into our portfolio of events.
Charity
Masters prides itself on regular visits to charities, orphanages and hospitals, or simply inviting the less privileged members of the community to come and watch the matches, Masters Football is delighted to do whatever we can to develop closer links with anyone who shares our love of the game and our affection for the legends.
New York City Fire Fighters Charity Match 2001
Our first major charitable event was the match we organised back in 2001 in support of the New York City FireFighters following the tragic events of 9/11. With a sell-out crowd at the Manchester Evening News Arena, as it then was, the game between a Manchester United XI and a Manchester City XI raised over £100,000, with the respective team managers – Sir Alex Ferguson and Kevin Keegan – presenting the cheque to the FireFighters’ charity in a moving finale to the event.
The Straits Times School Pocket Fund 2017
The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund was started in 2000 as a community project initiated by The Straits Times to provide pocket money to children from low-income families to help them through school. During the Arsenal and Liverpool Masters tour of Singapore, Masters Football worked with our partner Great Eastern to arrange the “Score For Charity” event at Great Eastern Centre Atrium in Pickering Street. Legends such as World Cup winner and Premier League invincible Gilberto Silva had to save penalty kicks being taken by donors. The activation raised $18,000 for the SPMF and was a fantastic afternoon that was enjoyed by players, fans and most importantly the children, who all got opportunities for autographs and selfies with the players.
Kanu Heart Foundation Charity Petrolex Kanu Cup
Having been alerted to the amazing work the Kanu Heart Foundation do for underprivileged people with heart problems, Masters Football organised the Petrolex Kanu Cup in 2018 trying to raise funds to pay for more heart operations aswell as raising awareness for the incredible work Kanu and his foundation do. The match between Premier League Masters and African Masters (with Kanu playing a half for each team) was held at Barnet FC stadium – The Hive, and was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for the many spectators who came to support the cause. World class names such as Robert Pires, Michael Essien and Steve McManaman were on show and Arsene Wenger was there to manage the Premier League Masters.
It was a hugely successful event with more than £50,000 raised for the foundation and more than £20,000,000 worth of media value for the charity including interviews on Good morning Britain and Sky Sports News aswell as features in many newspapers. The match was broadcasted live in the UK on London Live and throughout Africa on Kwesi TV.
“Many thanks to both Masters Football and the Castlewood Group for this wonderful opportunity which ignited a buzz of excitement within our whole community. Having the Liverpool Masters here at school created a magic moment that not only inspired but will also live on in the memory of our budding professional footballers for many years to come!”
