There has always been a strong community element to MastersFootball™ and it continues to be one of the most popular activities for the players.

Whether it’s coaching local children whilst on overseas tours, visiting charities, orphanages and hospitals, or simply inviting the less privileged members of the community to come and watch the matches, MastersFoootball™ is delighted to do whatever we can to develop closer links with anyone who shares our love of the game and our affection for the legends.

Our first major charitable event was the match we organised back in 2001 in support of the New York City FireFighters following the tragic events of 9/11. With a sell-out crowd at the Manchester Evening News Arena, as it then was, the game between a Manchester United XI and a Manchester City XI raised over £100,000, with the respective team managers – Sir Alex Ferguson and Kevin Keegan – presenting the cheque to the FireFighters’ charity in a moving finale to the event.

When we go abroad, the local Football Association will often nominate a charity for us to support, and we can help in a variety of ways: – we are happy to donate a percentage of ticket sales revenue to worthy causes – match tickets can be provided – coaching sessions can be run – school and hospital visits can be arranged, such as that to the Tanglin International School in Singapore recently: here’s a brief report of that event:

Tanglin was delighted to play host to Liverpool’s legends in an exclusive soccer clinic, organised as part of Castlewood Group’s Community Giveback campaign.

The soccer clinic saw the 15 Liverpool legends – including Merseyside legend Robbie Fowler, Champions League winner Jerzy Dudek and fans’ favourite Patrik Berger – put 130 Tanglin students through their paces in a six-station drill session. Students from the ages of 11-19 enjoyed practice drills, mini-games and shooting competitions. The delight of the youngsters, having the chance to display their skills and receive tips from football legends, was clear for all to see. The students were equally enthusiastic to participate in a photograph and autograph session with the players following the football and all the youngsters took home with them some wonderful memories and mementos of the day.

The Tanglin CEO, Peter Derby-Crook, commented: “Many thanks to both MastersFootball Asia and the Castlewood Group for this wonderful opportunity which ignited a buzz of excitement within our whole community. At Tanglin, we aim to inspire our students and build on their passions over and beyond the core curriculum. Having the Liverpool Legends here at school created a magic moment that not only inspired but will also live on in the memory of our budding professional footballers for many years to come!

We are always happy to hear from charities wanting to work with us, so if you run a charity and can see the fundraising benefits of some of the great names in British football, please do get in touch with us, and let’s chat about how we can help you.
